The Mid-Norfolk Railway's Summer Steam Gala played host to GWR 94xx Pannier 9466 and RSH 0-6-0ST Ugly, but it was the visit of LNER A4 Pacific 60009 Union of South Africa that drew my attention. 'Number 9' has held a special place in my affections since childhood, and after the news broke earlier this year that the loco's owner John Cameron would be retiring the A4 from active service, I'll be doing my best to see this inspirational machine as much as I can before it heads into retirement.
